How to Make Money as an Artist

In this post I want to share different ways that you can make money as an artist illustrator and to share all the possibilities if you are a beginner. After reading this post, you’ll be able to grow your own income streams as an artist!

1. Selling your artwork

   • Original art

   • Prints

   • Stickers

   • Many other products

   You can set up online shops like Etsy, Gumroad or Shopify.

   You can also set up stalls at craft fairs.

2. Licensing your art

   • In-stores on products

   • Book illustrations

   • Print on demand sites

   POD sites like Society 6, Red Bubble or Tee public.

   You can also reach out to possible companies for work.

3. Art Commissions

   • Self portraits

   • Family

   • Pet

   • Couples/Wedding

   Share your commissions on places like Facebook (or any other social platform), Fivver or Mademay.

4. Freelance work

   • Illustration

   • Logo

   • Web design.

   You can find or offer work on places like Devian art, Upwork, 99 designs, simply hired or Behance.

5. Teaching art

   • Online workshops

   • In-person workshops

   • Courses

   • Memberships

   You can teach classes on places like Skillshare, Udemy or Teachable.

6. Find an art agency

   Some agencies I know of are Pink Light Studio, Avocado artists, Jennifer Nelson or Jewel Branding.

Other extra ways you can make money are:

• YouTube ad-sense

• Sponsorships

• Patreon

• Publishing a book

• Selling digital downloads like e-books, templates, procreate brushes, colouring pages, etc
